Hello again. It's the 5th of August today, another month rolling around. Don't forget the AGM is coming up on the 19th of September. Get those nominations in for your Committee. No big news from the last Committee meeting. A smaller profit for the month before, better than the other way though. The Gaming machines have been sold and it is noticed that there is to be a sinking lid policy throughout NZ on gaming machines. The full minutes are on the Notice Board. Don't forget the Rugby on the big screen this Saturday. AB's V Wallabies at 7.35pm. Come and maybe get a seat on the Corporate Couch and enter the Pick the Score Draw. A nice meal from the Restaurant would definitely make for an excellent night out.
New Members....
Welcome to last months new members. Good to have you onboard. We have one Service Member, Robert Clark and the Associate Members Ngaire Bates,
Michael Bentley, Anthony Brownett, Hone Heke, SHayne Hewitt and Garth Matterson. Please make these people feel welcome.
Bridge Club....
The Mephisto Cup tournament played in mid-July attracted players from Kaitaia and Whangarei, and resulted in a win for the 2nd year running
for Jack Simms of Kaitaia, 2nd Lloyd Purdie, 3rd David Skinner. The cup event is played in two sessions with different partners, and is
considered a fun event, with everybody bringing a "white elephant" for the prize table, therefore everyone wins!
The following Thursday was President's night, when many players joined in and dressed up as a character starting with the letter "B". Most
popular costumes were worn by Beauty Queen Tony Simmonds, and Muriel Wright as a Blonde Bombshell. Overall winners of the night's bridge
session were Trevor Norton and Tony Simmonds, 2nd the Purdies and third Lin Dickinson and David Skinner.
The Monday handicap pair event was won by Sue Brown and Lloyd Purdie, Helen Fieldsend and Arlene 2nd, Shirley Douglas and Maureen Simmonds
third.
Tuesday 3rd August was won by Joan Berrington and Brian Cliffin, 2nd were the Nortons.
Euchre and Quizz....
Quizz Toughie: What is a Maillot?
Quizz is still being well attended and there have been some close competitions. Last weeks winners Sage 37, 2nd Craft 34 and third equal
on 32 were Nibbles, Yahtzee and Linclon. Last night saw Craft getting craftier and overtaking Sage 36 points to 23. Well done 3rdplace went
to Orange Roughies with 22.
The Euchre nights are also being hotly contested. Last week Nobby Gibson was the overall winner and this week Graeme Burkinshaw took the
honours. He assured us that it was his masterful playing not the fact that a few of the regular players were in Melbourne. Ok Burky, we
believe you.
Toughie Answer: A tight fitting one piece bathing suit.
Pool Section....
Last week was the King of the Table Competition which was jointly won by a visitor, John Eels and Graham Griffith. The Killer Competition
was taken by John Cree and Joe (Hawkeye) Hokai. This week is the Ladder Challenge. Guess whose back on top! On Sunday 8th of August the
Pool Club is visiting Taheke Tavern. There will be a meeting on Friday night to discuss transport and times. If you wish to join in come
along or contact Graham Griffiths 027 431-3383.Due to a Reserve Day for Ladies Pennants last Sunday our Golf day was postponed until this
Sunday, 10.00am at Kerikeri. Those eager to try their skills at gumboot throwing must be ready at 9.30am in the area by the garage. G
